Cross and Crown Award Requirements

 

CATEGORY ONE (Commandery Internal Improvement)

1. Have an open installation of officers [5 points]
2. Have open meetings with interesting programs during the year. (NOT to include installation of officers.) [5 points per meeting]
3. Knighting new Sir Knights for your Commandery [5 points per Knight]
4. Actual candidate at Inspection [25 points]
5. Sponsor a widow's nights. (NOT to be held in conjunction with any other special meeting.) [15 points]
6. Conduct a Memorial Service for deceased Sir Knights (NOT to be held in conjunction with any other special meeting.) [10 points]
7. Serve meals at each stated conclave during the year and invite wives to join the Sir Knights at the meal [5 points]
8. Recognize, at each stated meeting, the Sir Knights who have celebrated their birthdays and/or the anniversary of their knightings [5 points]
9. Have the annual returns in to the Grand Recorder on time. [5 points]
10. Complete all obligatory observances, i.e. Easter, Ascension, Patriotic and Christmas. (Observances must be held on separate dates.) [5 points]
11. All installed officers must show proficiency and participate in their respective stations during the ritualistic opening and closing ceremonies during the Annual Inspection. [10 points]
12. All installed officers must show proficiency and participate in thier respective stations during the conferring of the Order of the Temple during the Annual Inspection. [20 points]
13. Commandery contributes $50.00 to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation. (NOT to include individual Sir Knights contributions.) [10 points]
14. All currently installed officers are Life Sponsors of the Knights Templar Eye Foundation. [10 points]
15. All currently installed officers, with the exceptions of the Treasurer, Recorder, Prelate and Sentinel, must be Sir Knights who have not previously served as Commander of the Commandery making this application. [10 points]
16. All elected officers attend stated conclave. (not available if completing number 17) [5 points per meeting]
17. All installed officers attend stated conclave. [10 points per member]
18. Present an Excalibur Award to a deserving Sir Knight. [10 points]
19. Members (excluding officers) in attendance at stated conclave. [10 points per member]
20. Recipients of Grand Encampment Membership Award. [5 points per member]
 

CATEGORY TWO (Commandery External Improvement)

1. The Commander, Generalissimo, Captain General, Instructor and at least six (6) other currently installed Commandery Officers must attend a District School of Instruction. [10 points]
2. All installed officers and Instructor attend District School of Instruction. [25 points]
3. Publish a news letter or bulletin, not less than quarterly and send it to all members. [15 points]
4. Attend a Blue Lodge with a program to promote York Rite Masonry in general and Templar Masonry in particular in your district at least twice during the Templar year. [5 points]
5. Visit other Commanderies in your area with at least six (6) installed officers on each trip. [10 points each visit]
6. Participate in the Gift of Life Program with one or more lodges in your district. (Commandery must be advertised as a participating sponsor.) [10 points each program]
7. Publicize your Commandery's activities on a regular basis in the local news media. [10 points]
8. Make flag presentations at open functions in other bodies affiliated with the Masonic Fraternity. [5 points each]
9. Compete in Field Drill competition at Grand Commandery. [10 points]
10. Compete in Field Drill competition at Grand Encampment. [20 points]
11. Sponsor a Ritualistic competition Team and participate in competition at the Annual Grand Conclave. [10 points]
12. Have a "net growth" in membership for the Templar Year, over and above deaths. [50 points]
13. Confer, or demonstrate the ability to confer, the Order of the Red Cross with not less than ten (10) members of the degree team from your own Commandery. (NOT available if completing Requirement 31.) [10 points]
14. Confer, or demonstrate the ability to confer, the Order of the Red Cross with all members of the degree team from your own Commandery. (NOT available if completing Requirement 30.) [15 points]
15. Confer, or demonstrate the ability to confer, the Order of Malta with not less than ten (10) members of the degree team from your own Commandery. (NOT available if completing Requirement 33.) [10 points]
16. Confer, or demonstrate the ability to confer, the Order of Malta with all members of the degree team from your own Commandery. (NOT available if completing Requirement 32.) [15 points]
17. When invited, assist other Commanderies in the conferral of the Red Cross, the Order of Malta and the Order of the Temple.) [1 point per station]
18. Have no suspensions for NPD or demits during the Templar Year. [25 points]
19. Create and maintain a web site on the Internet with the Commandery's name and Knight Templar emblem, providing Knight Templar and/or Commandery information to the public for at least six (6) months. [25 points]
20. Support or assist local Beauceant Assembly or Masonic Youth organization with activities (dinners, fundraisers, financial, etc.). [15 points]
 

CATEGORY THREE (Civic & Community Involvement)

1. As a Commandery support a local Public Library by contributing one hundred ($100.00) or more dollars or more than ten (10) books. [25 points]
2. As a Commandery, sponsor a fund raising project for purchasing unbudgeted items for school (public or private), public libraries, fire departments, police departments, emergency corps, etc. [25 points]
3. As a Commandery, participate in a community improvement project, such as a clean-up campaign, for your community. [25 points]
4. As a Commandery, collect and distribute food, clothing, and/or toys for the needy in your community. [25 points]
5. As a Commandery, join the "Adopt-a-Highway Program" in your area. [25 points]
6. As a Commandery, sponsor or assist in a fix-up or building campaign, i.e. "Habitat-for-Humanity", in your community. [25 points]
7. As a Commandery, take part in a presentation of the American Flag at a local government or civic function. [25 points]
8. As a Commandery, take part in presenting the American Flag at local high school athletic games. [25 points per game]
9. As a Commandery, sponsor or raise money for a minister to participate in the "Knights Templar Holy Land Pilgrimage." [75 points]
10. Sponsor a Knights Templar booth at a local fair or community celebration. Commandery's name and Knight Templar emblem must be prominently displayed. (Sign should be of commercial quality). [50 points]
11. Sponsor a Knights Templar float or have the Commandery's Drill Team march in a local parade. (Commandery name and Knights Templar emblem must be prominently displayed on the float or the Commandery's Grand Banner and Beauceant must be displayed, and Knights must be in full uniform if the parade theme permits.) [50 points]
12. Cause the Commandery to appear on television as a group for its participation in a civic or community project. [50 points]
13. Cause the Commandery's picture to appear in a local newspaper for its participation in a civic or community project. [50 points]
14. Cause the Commandery to appear on television as a group for its participation in a Commandery project. [25 points]
15. Cause the Commandery's picture to appear in a local newspaper for its participation in a Commandery project. [25 points]
16. Cause the Commandery's name to be mentioned on the radio for its participation in either a civic or community project. [25 points]
17. Prior approval by the Public Relations & Special Projects/Patriotic & Civic Committee required for Public Relations projects not listed. [Not to exceed 25 points per occasion]
